Seth Godin

He is a marketing guru I follow. OK, he does more than marketing: I’m at a loss to adequately describe his work. I’d like to work at a place that has heard about him. I’m reading his new book https://www.moreseth.com/ it is great and kind of challenging. Well, it weighs 18 lbs, so reading it presents challenges. I mean that in just a couple of sentences he challenges my worldview and encourages better thinking.  Here is one: “The cost of being wrong is less than the cost of doing nothing.” YIKES!

I made a mistake

When I started my job search back in November, I cleaned up my Facebook, Instagram, and my personal web-page. I was pretty sure that I needed to be a little more generic to get the a new job I thought I would like. Well, I wasn’t offered the Executive Director position at the Athens Downtown Development Authority, but I still left this empty.

Over half of the jobs I’ve applied for have a social media marketing component. Three actually had a “blogging” component, and I had nothing to show.

One of the first rules of marketing is “Show don’t tell.” I’m an entrepreneur with 20 years of management and marketing experience. I now have a project to manage for the biggest client I’ll ever have: Find a new professional adventure for Roy Felts.
